To be a reference in innovation and positive impact as a company dedicated to the sugarcane, controlled by a united and harmonious family.
Since 1980, we have brought innovation and pioneering spirit to the work with sugarcane.
Cocal Foundation In the city of Paraguaçu Paulista/SP, we started our activities by the hands of Carlos Arruda Garms, as a family and 100% national company.
Start of the sugar production We expanded our operations, incorporating the sugar production into our activities.
Energy cogeneration In addition to the production of ethanol and sugar, we also started to include the electricity cogeneration in our activities, a pioneering initiative at the time, with an increase in the yield of the thermoelectric plant at the unit of Paraguaçu Paulista/SP.
Partnership with Copersucar We made a partnership with Copersucar, the largest Brazilian sugar and ethanol trader, integrated into production. We were one of the first companies to enter into this partnership.
Inauguration of the Narandiba unit We expanded territorially with the construction of a second unit in Narandiba/SP, a poorly developed city at the time. Thus, we strengthened our purpose of generating jobs, income, and development in the west of São Paulo state.
Expansion of activities We expanded our operations at the unit of Narandiba/SP, starting the thermoelectric operations and energy cogeneration. In that year, the unit was expanded once again, when the expansion project began, which increased its grinding capacity.
Management improvement To ensure business continuity and sustainability, we structured a professionalized management and strengthened the corporate governance model.
TPS Project Seeking continuous improvement, we started a partnership with Toyota to implement the Toyota Production System, aimed at finding solutions to achieve high levels of quality and efficiency. We are one of the few industries in Brazil that has adopted the automaker's program.
Issuance of CRAs and strategic planning This was a busy year at Cocal. We issued our first Agribusiness Receivables Certificates, to raise funds in the capital market. We also implemented our security program, in partnership with Dupont, and formalized our strategic planning.
Ethanol innovation and expansion committee The year of 2018 witnessed the creation of the Innovation Committee, mapped in the strategic planning of 2017, becoming responsible for centralizing and standardizing the work focused on this area. Also, in this year we expanded our ethanol production capacity.
Establishment of new partnerships We further strengthened our network by establishing new partnerships, such as Lots/Scania and Cocamar, the Paraná cooperative, with whom we worked jointly to plant soybeans in sugarcane meiosis areas.
Recognition and new projects Our concern with the positive impact of our activities was recognized with the achievement of the Renovabio certification. We also launched the Connectivity Project, which expanded the internet connection in the agricultural areas where we operate, enabling the use of technology for management of processes.
New products We further expanded our business and started producing biogas, green CO2 (food grade), and dry yeast. This way, we reduce our carbon footprint and strengthen our performance within the concept of circular economy, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability.
Start of a new planning cycle We started a new cycle with the 2022–2026 strategic planning. We also implemented programs such as the SAP Project, the ESG Program, and the Pão de Açúcar Project in partnership with Lesaffre.
No one gets far alone. Therefore, we work together with a network of partners, institutions and entities from different sectors to expand our positive impacts, generate development and opportunities in our regions of operation, and share the benefits of sugarcane.
